A visiting student at New College in 1955–56, Lloyd Ogilvie served as minister of First Presbyterian Hollywood before becoming chaplain to the United States Senate in 1995, a position from which he retired in 2003.

A physician and honorary Professor of Health and Ageing at the University of Edinburgh who wrote his dissertation on the Aramaic of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

After a BD and PhD from New College, Dr Gray went on to become Professor of Literary History and Hermeneutics, University of Chichester and Director, Sussex Centre for Folklore, Fairy Tales and Fantasy.
