Each year the Cockburn Association organises 'Doors Open Day' in Edinburgh, when architecturally and culturally significant buildings in the city are open to the public, free of charge. A number of University buildings participated this year.

The School of Divinity was pleased to participate and opened Rainy Hall and New College Library on Saturday 26 September. In conjunction with the Assembly Hall, which was opened at the same time by the Church of Scotland, visitors had an opportunity to explore these interesting spaces at New College.

Over 860 visitors came in to see Rainy Hall and the Library and were provided with information on the architecture and history of the site. Many were tourists to the city, others had planned a weekend of 'Doors Open Day' visits throughout Edinburgh, and the rest were simply passing by The Mound and were curious to see what was behind our iconic façade when they saw the signs for Doors Open Day.

Staff and students at the School of Divinity are lucky to work in such beautiful surroundings and it was a pleasure to share them and to hear how much the visitors appreciated and admired them too!
