CPD event for Scottish School teachers: Understanding religious conversion through story Join us at this free event if you are looking for teaching resources that offer sensitive and nuanced perspectives on how individuals have responded to these three World Religions. Programme We will introduce newly studied and translated narratives of religious conversion—some ancient stories of the first converts to Buddhism, and others, autobiographical narratives that tell remarkable stories of faith experiences in colonial-era India. The sessions will explore how conversion experiences are often shaped by social and cultural pressures of gender, social status and family but also impact wider society in important ways. We will invite discussion about further ways to integrate these stories from the three traditions to key RMPE topics such as ‘conversion experiences,’ ‘beliefs about God,’ ‘morality and belief’ and ‘living according to the Gospels/the Eightfold Path.’ After lunch, we invite you to participate in a drama workshop to explore creative ways of using these materials in the classroom to explore faith, relationships and conflict.
