Externally Funded Visiting Schemes

We invite outstanding academics based in any country overseas to apply for the external funding schemes listed below to facilitate a visit to the School.

The British Academy Visiting Fellowships enable academics from any country overseas to be based at a UK higher education or other research institution of their choice for up to six months and develop collaborative projects with UK colleagues.

Eligibility:

Visiting Fellows must be of postdoctoral level or above, or have equivalent research experience at the time of application. Candidates should be based outside of the UK at the time of application. Applicants may be on permanent or fixed-term contracts. Fixed-term contracts must not end before the end date of the Visiting Fellowship. Independent scholars are also welcome to apply.

Please see the scheme guidance on the BA website for more details: https://www.thebritishacademy.ac.uk/funding/visiting-fellowships/guidance-notes/

How to apply:

We ask that candidates send us an outline proposal, along with a short summary CV to divresearch@ed.ac.uk at least one month prior to the deadline date published on the British Academy website (https://www.thebritishacademy.ac.uk/funding/visiting-fellowships/).

Your proposal should including methodology and timetable; planned outputs; dissemination plans; a note on fit with research activities within the School, specifying who you will be working with and how this will benefit both yourself and the School. The proposal should be no more than two pages of A4, using a font of no less than point 11 and 2cm margins. Your CV should include your publications to date along with your academic history, including the date your PhD was awarded.

We will aim to review your application and advise candidates if they have been selected for a full submission within one week.
