The School of Divinity and ResLife are pleased to announce the winners of the ‘Staying Grateful during a Global Pandemic’ writing competition Image Students were encouraged to write 500 words reflecting on how they tried to remain grateful through the disruption and isolation of the past year. With almost 100 entries, students wrote about how they are finding hope in the midst of the pandemic, by rediscovering their love of nature, spending time with family or writing gratitude journals. Students shared how practicing gratitude helped them through relocating to Edinburgh, quarantines after international travel and missed graduations. For their 500-word essays, four students have been selected for the prize of £250: Claudette Igiraneza, Christina Kelly, Esgrid Sikahall Urizar and Sachinda Dulanjana Witharana. The prize-winning essays, as well as the top-10 finalists, will be featured on the ‘Gratitude: Christian and Muslim Perspectives’ website. The prize-winners will also be interviewed for Professor Mona Siddiqui’s ‘Living Gratefully’ podcast in the coming year. The ‘Staying Grateful during a Global Pandemic’ writing competition is part of the School of Divinity’s ‘Gratitude: Christian and Muslim Perspectives’ project, sponsored by the Issachar Fund.
