More Slaves Today than at any Time

A one-day conference that explores current issues related to human trafficking from different contexts and perspectives.

ACTS Anti-Human Trafficking Group, The Albertus Institute and The Centre for Theology and Public Issues (CTPI) at the University of Edinburgh are pleased to co-host this one day conference, exploring current issues related to human trafficking, from different contexts and perspectives. There will be keynote speakers, parallel sessions for short research papers, an exhibition and to conclude the day, a panel discussion. The conference will enable researchers, postgraduate students and others to present their work, to make new connections, and to engage in constructive dialogue across a range of voices, disciplines and expertise, including theology.

Speakers and contributors will include people engaged in academic research, politics, policing, media, frontline services, policymaking, campaigning and faith communities – from across Scotland and beyond. We welcome all who are concerned about any aspect of this global crisis of human exploitation. The conference will be a forum to present research, debate key concepts and issues, share other approaches to the issues (eg using arts and media) and to exchange examples of good practice in addressing the complex challenges presented by human trafficking, within and across national borders. The event will seek to encompass and attend to the voices, experiences and ideas of those who have been directly affected by human trafficking.
