John Barclay
John Barclay is Lightfoot Professor of Divinity at Durham University, where he has taught New Testament and early Christianity since 2003. Previously he taught at Glasgow University for 19 years. His research focuses on early Judaism and the formation of the early Christian movement, with current attention given to Paul's theology of gift (grace) and his concept of community. His latest book, 'Paul and the Gift' (2015) is to be followed by a study of the circulation of grace, drawing out how Paul figures social reciprocity and conjoint benefit within a field of resonance created by gift, issuing in a challenge to some modern notions of altruism.
